Day 8: Miracles, Signs, & Wonders
THURSDAY | AUGUST 21
Mark 16:17-18 NLT
17 These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. 18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”
If you continue reading in Acts 5, the Bible says that after the coming of the Holy Spirit, Jesus' followers began to see all kinds of miracles, and God was using them to perform them. They were so used to having Jesus physically by their side when a miracle happened, but now they became the bearers of the power of God that dwelled within them.
Acts 5 says that even Peter's shadow performed miracles! Just as Jesus came and performed all kinds of miracles, Jesus' followers did the same now through the power of the Holy Spirit in them.
And you know that the Holy Spirit continues to work wonders today. The power of God can still perform miracles with us today, and He wants to do it through you.
God can make the impossible possible. And He wants to use you to see miracles all around you. Perhaps you have friends or family who need a miracle. Through the Holy Spirit in you, you have the power to see God's miracles in your life and in the lives of those around you.
It's easy to hear and read about miracles, but do you really believe it? God never intended for His wonders to remain only in the pages of a Bible we read. He wants us to truly experience them. Jesus said, "These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe." Do you really believe God can perform wonders around you?
Ephesians 3:20 says that God can accomplish things beyond our imagination through His power (dunamis) that ACTS IN US. There's no need to wait for a special guest to come. There's no need to wait until a certain person prays for me. God still performs miracles today, and God can perform miracles through you.
The power that was with Moses, the power that was with Elijah, the same power that was in Peter's shadow, the same power that raised Christ from the dead, is the same power at work in you today. The miracle is not about a human person! The miracle is found in God, and if God is with us, we have access to that power.
God has chosen to partner with ordinary people to see His extraordinary power. You don't have to be a prophet or apostle. You simply have to be a believer who is willing to walk in faith.
Miracles are not about our power, but about His presence. They don't happen to glorify ourselves, but so that others see the reality of Jesus. When we pray for someone who is sick or when we share a word God has given us, we give God space to reveal His love and glory in undeniable ways.
God wants to use you. He desires your life to be a living testimony on earth of His supernatural kingdom. The question is, will you make yourself available for Him to move through you?
REFLECT: Do you still believe God can do miracles today? What might be holding you back from stepping out in faith to pray for healing, deliverance, or breakthrough? How can you make yourself more available for God to use you as a vessel of His power? Do you need a miracle right now? Who in your life right now needs you to pray boldly for a miracle?
PRAY: Pray that the miracles, signs, and wonders of God will be demonstrated around you.
